What colonoscopies and WSIB audits have in common
By Mark Hofstee - Conadain Contractor Magazine
When you get to a certain age the doctor will say to you "it is time for you to get a colonoscopy". Usually you will have no warning it is coming so you deal with it one step at a time.
Being contacted by WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board), Wanting to audit our books was much like the colonoscopy there were no red flags or warnings to let us know this was coming. A review date was set and detailed instructions were given to collect two years worth of documentation on every labour payment we made. When the day of the review finally came we were not happy about it but we were ready it was discovered that we actually did owe WSIB some money for minor sub-contractors.
Overall both the colonoscopy and the WSIB investigation were not as bad it was originally though they would be. They are both things that people will have to go through at some point in their life so you may as wee prepare yourself for the inevitable now. |
